The last couple of years I've been focused on incorporating native plants into our landscaping for their ecological benefits. I'm loving this Celandine poppy, which is a great early blooming option for shady spots. I have done nothing to this plant other than plant it in the ground a couple of years ago and it looks fantastic.

Before and after of a kids' room. Love how the woodwork turned out in this room. I looked high and low for a Jenny Lind bed that wouldn't break the bank and I'm glad I was patient because I love this bed. The oak tall boy is another piece I had been looking for for a while and the one I found is just what I wanted. Looking forward to continuing to hang artwork in here!

Summertime at our house means lots of gardening, landscaping, and being able to hang the laundry outside.

It's easy to feel like I'm not making enough progress on the house, so it's great to take a step back to appreciate all the work I've done outside. Since we have an extra large lot and landscaping can seem daunting, I tend to take on one major landscaping project per year. Last year I planted the hydrangeas. This year I started a native plant area on the side of our garage where we used to have our chicken run. Unfortunately a lot of the native plants I ordered ended up not being available, so the spot sits half done, but I'm so excited about the half that is done and growing in nicely!

This summer I also fixed one of our rain barrels so that it was installed correctly with the gutter and the overflow would drain properly into the alley. I was intimidated by that project so I feel accomplished to have done it mostly by myself!

Yesterday I made fresh pesto with basil from our garden and today it's zucchini bread to use up some of our enormous zucchinis!
